1. Charlie Morton reunion

Bringing back Morton is already being discussed as a reasonable option for both sides. First, Morton is unsure if he wants to play in 2021, though his agent refutes those reports. Should a familiar destination be in the cards, those doubts will likely go out the window. From the Astros perspective, Morton pitched at an ace level in the 2020 postseason, and the wily veteran has a ton of playoff experience. What’s not to love?

Morton will be 37 at the start of next season. While he had a 4.74 ERA in the shortened regular season, Morton came alive in the playoffs. He’s just one year removed from making the AL All-Star team, and he can likely be signed on a cheaper, one-year deal.

Houston initially signed Morton in 2017, and the lefty reinvented himself. In his final year in Houston he reached new heights, making the All-Star team in 2018 and pitching to a 3.13 ERA.

Morton doesn’t have much to prove at this point in his career, but finishing things up in Houston — where he won a World Series and arguably saved his career — ought to have some sort of meaning.
