Indians: 3 potential replacements if they trade Francisco Lindor
By Mike Luciano
While he was an All-Star who has hit .300 in the past, Iglesias was often considered an offensive liability for most of his career, hitting just 21 home runs with an 84 OPS+ from 2011 to 2018. After hitting 11 home runs in 2019 with the Reds, Iglesias proved that his totals weren’t flashes in the pan. With the Orioles, Iglesias hit .373 with three home runs in 39 games, a mark that would’ve made him the AL batting champion ahead of DJ LeMahieu if he received enough at-bats to qualify. On the market once again, Cleveland needs to jump at the chance to bring him in and install him as the leadoff hitter.
There is plenty of risk with Iglesias, as he has one above-average offensive season and a 39-game hot streak some would be quick to dismiss as evidence he has turned a corner. However, the Indians ate parting ways with a truly elite combination of offensive prowess and slick defensive wizardry in Lindor, and the closest they will come to signing someone equally adept in both facets could be Iglesias. He’s not Lindor, but he’s a competent facsimile that will cost much less.
