Big Ten basketball breakout player: Seth Towns, F, Ohio State

Ohio State is going to be a fascinating team to watch in the 2020-2021 season for the Big Ten. They are losing key players such as Kaleb Wesson, among others, but head coach Chris Holtmann was aggressive on the transfer market to try and fill the holes left by their departures. And perhaps the most important of those players is former Harvard forward Seth Towns.

Towns played two seasons for the Crimson and, last in the 2017-2018 season, the 6-foot-8 now-senior was an absolute stud in the Ivy League. He averaged 16 points with 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 44.1 percent from long range, on 143 attempts no less. He’s a versatile floor-stretcher with a proven offensive game.

Given the loss of Wesson, Ohio State is going to be looking for a consistent offensive force that can help guide them when they have possession. While moving to the Big Ten is an undeniable jump in the level of competition for him, his ability to fill it up from long range and score inside should serve him well.

From what I’m seeing, Towns should play a pivotal role in any success that the Buckeyes have this season. As he’s been on the sidelines for two seasons after playing in the Ivy League, he’ll become a player that many fans weren’t aware of but can’t stop watching in the 2020-2021 campaign.
