SEC basketball breakout star: BJ Boston, G, Kentucky (Freshman)

If you’ve paid any attention to Sierra Canyon High School, chances are you were tuning in so to catch a glimpse of Bronny James. However, James wasn’t the best player on that team and, frankly, BJ Boston may not have been either. But the incoming Kentucky freshman was certainly one of the best and now he’s set to be a star for the Wildcats.

As per usual, John Calipari is going to be relying on a strong freshman class to get the job done this season but the way the class has shaped up seemingly points to Boston having the most pivotal role, particularly on offense.

The 6-foot-6 guard has a ton of size and has the ability to fill up the cup from all over the floor. He can score from long range but has the ball-handling and athleticism to attack off the dribble and finish well at the rim. Because of all of this, it would actually be a shock if Boston didn’t end up being the primary option for Kentucky on offense.

Boston is destined to be a lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and, while he’s likely a one-and-done player, he’s set to take SEC basketball by storm this season. He’s going to be the X-factor for the Wildcats and may even be in a position to lead the conference in scoring when it’s all said and done.
