It’s a matter of when, not if, Lynn will be traded, as the Rangers are on track for a full-scale rebuild in the near future. Even though his deal is set to expire in the following offseason, there is still a healthy market for Lynn, who has revitalized his career after a horrid 2018 season. Lynn has a 3.57 ERA in two seasons as a Ranger, finishing in the top-six in AL Cy Young voting on both occasions. The Dodgers might have enough starting pitching on paper, but there is no such thing as too much pitching when the calendar turns to October, and that truth could help facilitate a deal.

David Price returning to a rotation that also has the likes of Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw, and Dustin May is lethal enough, but there are still some questions around this staff. Tony Gonsolin let the Dodgers down with some poor performances in the postseason, and Dave Roberts might keep Julio Urias in the bullpen considering his excellent performances in the “fireman” role during LA’s championship run. Lynn has a proven history of success and minimal financial baggage that could handicap that Dodgers, and that confluence could help Friedman trade for him.
