College football upsert alert No. 3: Indiana Hoosiers

Rank: 12 | Opponent: Maryland Terrapins | Time: Saturday, Nov. 28, Noon ET

If you just looked at the way that everyone is gassing up the Indiana Hoosiers coming out of Week 12, you would think that quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and his cohorts were able to pull off the upset of Ohio State last week. But the simple truth is that the Hoosiers came up short in that game and come into a matchup with Maryland off of their first loss of the year.

Regardless, Indiana has been an impressive team. They gave the Buckeyes all they could handle and have wins over Penn State and Michigan — but let’s not forget that it’s extremely down years for those two programs. More importantly, the Hoosiers defense has relied quite heavily on forcing turnovers and the offense has stalled at various points, even early against OSU.

Because it’s been three weeks since Maryland has been on the field due to COVID-19 cancelations, we may have forgotten that the Terrapins were starting to roll with young Taulia Tagovailoa at the quarterback spot. They got owned by a good Northwestern team but toppled Minnesota and overtime and looked even better at Penn State.

Make no mistake, the Hoosiers are the better team in this matchup. But even so, they are an imperfect team playing against a Terps squad that has a dangerous offense that was getting better with each game. If Maryland can expose those flaws and keep progressing, it could get dicey in Bloomington.
