No post-Thanksgiving Day surprises expected at quarterback in week 12 of the 2020 NFL/fantasy football season.  Though Patrick Mahomes of Kansas CIty and Seattle’s Russell WIlson will be tested by Tampa Bay and Philadelphia respectively, the two leading MVP candidates should score 20+ fantasy football points (FFP) this weekend.

This holiday season we are going to look at the top 8 quarterbacks in fantasy football and then highlight the “Surefire Starters” in that group to start in week 12.

Top 8  Starting Quarterbacks

  1. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals quarterback, is averaging 28.4 FFP per game.  The Cards’ staff is monitoring Murray carefully due to a shoulder injury he suffered in week 11.  Murray is expected to play against the Patriots, but he should run less and pass more for roughly 20 FFP.
  2. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City quarterback, is good for two dozen FFP against Tampa Bay and a “Surefire Starter” in week 12.  Mahomes has thrown 11 touchdown passes and only one interception in the last three games.
  3. Russell WIlson, Seattle Seahawks quarterback, is good for 20+ points against Philadelphia and a “Surefire Starter” in week 12.  in week 11’s showdown with division-rival Arizona, WIlson threw 2 touchdown passes and scored 20.08 FFP.
  4. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback, has the best statistics among rooke or second-year quarterbacks in the NFL.  He has completed 68% of passes and thrown 22 touchdown passes in 9 games.  Herbert may struggle this week to get 20 FFP against a stout Buffalo Bills defense.
  5. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills quarterback, has thrown 2 touchdowns or more in 8 out of 10 games this season.  He has thrown 21 touchdown passes and run for 5 TD’s.  Allen and the Bills will be keeping pacr with Justin Herbert and the Chargers Sunday afternoon
  6. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers quarterback, threw for 311 yards against the Colts’ tough defense in week 11.  He faces another challenge this Sunday at home aginst the CHicago Bears.
  7. Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans quarterback, was one of the “Surefire Starters” identified in this week’s Thanksgiving fantasy  preview article and he did not disappoint his fantasy football owners.  Watson threw  for 344 yards and 4 touchdowns., as the Texans throttled the Lions, 41-24.  The Houston QB earned 33.12 FFP against Detroit.
  8. Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans quarterback, threw for 259 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Ravens in week 11.  in the second half, Tannehill relied on the TItans power running game to beat Baltimore 30-24.,

Now let’s look at the bottom 8 starting quarterbacks that you want “riding the bench” in week 12 of fantasy football, except for one player who could serve as the “Sleeper of the Week”.

Bottom  8  Starting Quarterbacks

  1. Brandon Allen, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, makes his first start as a Bengal against the New York Giants this Sunday.  Allen did play in three games for the Denver Broncos, but was not very effective.  However, but he has previous experience with Cincinnati  head coach Zac Taylor’s offensive scheme.
  2. Andy Dalton, Dallas Cowboys quarterback, entered the Thanksgiving Day game against Washington with 35.4 FFP in 5 games and ended up with 47.7 FFP in  41-16 lloss.  Dalton threw 2 touchdown passes – one to teammate Amari Cooper and a “pick 6” TD to Washington defender MOntez Sweat.
  3. Tayson Hill, New Orleans Saints quarterback, has a 6.8 FFP average per game, but earned 24.42 points in his week 11 debut as the Saints starting QB..   Hill might be the perfect candidate for “Sleeper pf the Week” as New Orleans travels to Denver to play the Broncos this Sunday.
  4. Alex Smith, Washington Football Team, quarterback, has only had to throw 155 passes in 5 games this season.  Smith’s job is to avoid turnovers, and lean on Washington’s strong defense and running game.
  5. Nick Mullens, San Francisco 49ers quarterback. is averaging 10.4 FFP per game.and has thrown 5 touchdown passes and 5 interceptions.  He faces a difficult challenge in week 12 as the 49ers face the Rams and their league-leading defense.
  6. Sam Darnold or Joe Flacco, New York Jets quarterbacks, are both hovering around 11 FFP per game.  Neither quarterback has shined this season.  You don’t want to start Darnold or Flacco against Miami’s defense this weekend.
  7. Drew Lock, Denver Broncos quarterback, is operating under a run-oriented offensive philosophy that discourages the accumulation of fantasy points.  He is averaging 11.9 FFP points per game.
  8. Nick Foles, Chicago Bears quarterback, has only one game where he scored more than 20 FFP.  (He is averaging 13 points  per game.)  Whether the injured Foles or the previous starter, Mitchell Trubisky, starts against Green Bay at home Sunday night is still open to speculation.
