Fantasy Stars & Studs, Week 12: Tyreek Hill can be crucial contributor
Deebo Samuel – San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers welcomed Samuel back to their offense after he missed four games because of a hamstring injury, and his importance to San Francisco was illustrated by his excellent showing in the Niners’ surprise 23-20 win at the Los Angeles Rams that improved their record to 5-6 and kept their season alive.
Used in his featured role where he serves as a receiver and an extension of the running game, Samuel caught 11 of his 13 targets from Nick Mullens for 133 yards, earning 24.3 points in PPR scoring.
Even with his injury issues, it is staggering that Samuel is still available in 44 percent of Yahoo leagues and 40 percent of ESPN leagues. Fantasy managers astute enough to pluck him off the waiver wire look poised to be rewarded by a player who offers an ideal mix of opportunity and talent.
Per Pro Football Focus, 83 of Samuel’s receiving yards came after contact, the most of any wide receiver in a game this season.
With Nick Mullens inconsistent at best in pushing the ball downfield, Samuel figures to continue to receive a high percentage of targets on short passes that will allow him to rack up yardage after the catch.
In PPR leagues, Samuel has a very high floor, making him a worthy starter down the stretch, particularly in Week 15 when the 49ers face the porous Dallas Cowboys defense.
