3. Josh Allen, QB (Buffalo Bills)

Last Week’s Ranking: 3rd

Highest Ranking of Season: 2nd (-1)

2020 Stats: 3,028 Passing Yards, 22 Passing TDs, 8 INTs, 68.8% Comp, 102.3 Passer Rating, 6 Rushing TDs

Admittedly, the Bills Week 12 showdown with the sneaky Los Angeles Chargers was not Josh Allen’s magnum opus. But it didn’t need to be. A football team is comprised of 53 men, and the other 52 showed up to hang a 27-17 win on the Chargers. Allen certainly wasn’t bad, but this contest was a bottom-three outing of 2020 for Allen.

He scored twice — one pass, one rush — and contributed 175 passing yards on an efficient 75 percent completion ratio. Also of note is that Allen outdueled youngster Justin Herbert who has shown signs of extreme promise during his rookie campaign. In fact, Herbert has been quite good by any quarterback statistical standards.

Buffalo moves to 8-3 and continues its quest for an AFC East crown for the first time since 1995 — about five months before Josh Allen’s mother gave birth to him. It’s time for the Bills to dethrone the Patriots for the AFC East title. That will happen in five weeks in large part because of Josh Allen’s rapid maturation.
