2. Detroit Tigers

Alright, stick with me. The Tigers aren’t the most realistic fit for Bryant, but after AL Avila opted to hire AJ Hinch out of the blue, it appears management wants to contend far quicker than initially thought. The Tigers window likely doesn’t open until 2022 unless they make some significant improvements this offseason, which is where Bryant could come in.

Outside of prospect Isaac Paredes, whose pedestrian performance doesn’t inspire much confidence for his immediate production, the Tigers are lacking at third base. The Illitch family was willing to spend years ago, perhaps they’d do the same for Bryant on a short-term basis. Bryant would be the exact big splash necessary for Avila to prove to fans that the Tigers rebuild does, in fact, have an end date.

For a return, Detroit could offer up a number of prospects, including Paredes, should the Cubs be interested. It’s unlikely they’d want to part with any of their ‘Big 3’ pitching prospects of Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal or Matt Manning. But beyond pitching and last year’s first overall pick Spencer Torkelson, Detroit’s farm system is scarce of much infield talent. Avila surely knows this, so the idea of adding some proven talent at third base isn’t the worst idea.

It’s a longshot, but the question here isn’t “Who will trade for Kris Bryant?” The Tigers can offer a hefty return in ownership is indeed feeling the heat. The prospects are growing up, it’s time to acquire some direction.
