Texas Rangers. 2. player. West. AL. 126. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

The Rangers might not be the most attractive park for free-agent hitters, as playing for a team fresh off a last-place finish in a home stadium that didn’t appear to be very conducive to big power numbers is a tough sell. Turner, however, might end up in Texas due to his connections in the building. From 2016 to 2018, Chris Woodward was the Dodgers’ third-base coach, and those two clearly have some familiarity. Woodward knows he needs to improve if he wants to keep his job, and signing Turner would give that offense the extra bit of pop that could drag the Rangers out of the basement.

Third base was a particular source of irritation for the Rangers last year, as eventually deciding to part ways with Todd Frazier forced them to swap infielders in and out of that position seemingly every day. Turner would not only eliminate that problem by manning the hot corner every day, but he would give a young team an experienced voice in that locker room. With Turner on this team, they wouldn’t get completely discombobulated and unable to win a game after a Fernando Tatis Jr. grand slam. If some of their prospects start to perform as expected, the Rangers’ window to contention might start to crack open.
