NFL Week 13: Trends which will decide each game
Monday, Dec. 7
Washington Football Team (4-7) at Pittsburgh Steelers (11-0), 5:00 pm
Washington: Ron Rivera’s team last played on Thanksgiving and with the rescheduling of this contest wound up getting another day of rest and preparation. The club’s ground game came up big for the second straight week and rolled up 182 yards in the 41-16 Turkey Day conquest of the Cowboys at Dallas. Rookie Antonio Gibson has run for 645 yards and 11 scores during his debut campaign and also ranks fourth on the team with 32 receptions – good for an additional 233 yards. The team has also seemingly excelled in making second-half defensive adjustments. After giving up 170 points in the first half this season, Washington has surrendered just 73 points after intermission
Steelers: It was ugly and Mike Tomlin made it known that the club’s performance in the 19-14 win over the Ravens was less than satisfactory (via Grant Gordon of NFL.com). All told, the team is in the midst of a stretch that has them playing three games in a 12-day span. And Ron Rivera’s pass rush, which has produced 36 sacks to date, could present challenges for a Steelers’ team that has not allowed a sack in four consecutive games. Of course, Pittsburgh has totaled an imposing 41 QB traps – the most in the league. The 11-0 Steelers are in the playoffs with a win vs. Washington and may have already clinched a postseason berth before they take the field on Monday.
