NFL DFS Bargain Bin: Week 13 Sunday Slates Quarterbacks

Philip Rivers, IND at HOU ($5,900-DK/$7,000-FD)

Rivers and his teammates are still smarting from a Week 12 throttling at the hands of the division-rival Titans, a loss that only lends more urgency to this AFC South tilt. Indianapolis is fighting to stay in the playoff picture, and this is the type of key late-season winnable game that a grizzled veteran like Rivers is tailor-made to thrive in, especially with the Texans losing their one near-elite secondary piece in Bradley Roby this week due to a league suspension. While the Texans have been much more notorious for their highly porous run defense this season, they haven’t exactly been effective defending the pass either, even with Roby having missed only one game prior.

In that Week 9 contest, Houston did allow Jaguars rookie Jake Luton throw for 304 yards and a touchdown, however, and on the season, the Texans have surrendered a 20:3 TD:INT to QBs while also yielding an elevated 67.8 percent completion rate. Rivers is dealing with a bit of a toe issue, but he carries significant upside at his salaries in this matchup and checks in having averaged 20.2 DK/19.2 FD points on the strength of a 6:2 TD:INT and 891 passing yards over his last three contests. In turn, Houston is giving up a robust 269.2 passing yards per contest and an NFL-high 8.0 yards per attempt at home, and those numbers have been generated with Roby in the lineup for eight full games.

Jared Goff, LAR at ARI ($5,800-DK/$7,200-FD)

The Rams have leaned heavily on the run this season whenever feasible, with Goff putting the ball up on 33 or fewer occasions in seven of 11 games. However, a matchup against a turbo-paced division rival in the Cardinals will afford L.A. more plays than usual to work with, and given Arizona’s offensive upside, it’s likely coach Sean McVay opts for a more aggressive game plan as well. Additionally, it’s worth noting Goff enjoyed considerable success against the Cards in his two encounters with their Vance Joseph-coordinated defense last season, compiling a combined 743 yards on 69.3 percent passing, along with a 5:0 TD:INT.

Arizona has been fairly solid against the pass this season, but their philosophy of largely forcing short throws dovetails perfectly with what McVay prefers to have Goff do. The Cardinals are allowing 6.9 yards per attempt at home, while Goff is averaging 7.5 yards each time he puts the ball up. That’s helped him to a career-high 67.2 percent completion rate through 11 games, as well as four games of well over 20 fantasy points on both DK and FD. With Arizona also playing at the second-fastest pace (25.38 seconds per play) and ranking in the bottom half of the league in drive success rate allowed (74.7 percent), Goff makes for a solid late-window cash or tournament play in what should be a competitive contest.
