College football upset alert No. 1: USC Trojans
Rank: 20 | Opponent: Washington State Cougars | Time: Sunday, Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m. ET
The fact that the USC Trojans have done everything asked of them from a wins and losses perspective amid a 3-0 start to the season and they haven’t budged from their No. 20 spot in the rankings should tell you just about all you need to know about Clay Helton‘s team. They are unbeaten, yes, but they have looked quite imperfect en route to that mark.
USC beat Arizona State and Arizona by a combined five points and both games in comeback fashion. Furthermore, the Trojans had some early issues with Utah before running out for a 16-point win. For as much talent as is present on this roster, it’s quite baffling how inspiring the team as a whole has been to this point.
Quarterback Kedon Slovis has not been the player many hoped he’d be (perhaps due to underlying injuries) while the rushing attack has been a roller-coaster, the same of which is true for the defense. And all of this leads to a Sunday night matchup with Washington State being a potential trouble spot for the Trojans.
This USC team is getting put on upset alert in Week 14 not only for their shortcomings but due to the quality of the Cougars. At 1-1, this offense has looked quite solid and they seem to be able to compete with anyone in the Pac-12. If the Trojans follow their recent course and come out struggling, they could be in too much of a hole when it’s all said and done.
