Doug Pederson doesn’t commit to a starting QB for Week 14

Of course, Doug Pederson is not ready to name a Week 14 starting quarterback just yet.

Doug Pederson is going to have a rough week at the podium after benching Carson Wentz.

The Philadelphia Eagles are an awful football team. Through 12 games, the Birds are 3-8-1 on the year. This was a team many people expected would contend for the NFC East crown and be a dark horse to get to Super Bowl 55. Well, Wentz was benched in favor of Jalen Hurts in the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. Pederson has no idea who will start in Week 14.

When asked by the media who will start next Sunday vs. the NFC-best New Orleans Saints, Pederson offered this. “We needed a spark in this game to try to get some things going. I’ve got to get through injuries. There’s a lot of things I’m going to consider. And evaluate. Before anything is decided.” You can count on Pederson to delay the inevitable for as long as he can this week.

Should it be Jalen Hurts or Carson Wentz getting the start in Week 14?

Pederson finds himself between a rock and a hard place. Wentz has played terribly all season long. He is a far cry from the NFL MVP candidate he was in his second pro season back in 2017. The Eagles gave him an absurd amount of money in a second contract, but he was benched in favor of a rookie quarterback who had to transfer to Oklahoma to prove he could be an NFL passer.

Because the Eagles are now 1.5 games back of the Giants for first place in the NFC East, their season will be coming to an end sooner rather than later. If Pederson continues to start Wentz and he keeps playing like this, he will be fired after five years on the job. Should he bench Wentz in favor of Hurts, it will mean he has no faith in his former No. 2 overall pick. It is not a good look.

Hurts cannot be worse than what we have seen out of Wentz this season, so maybe it is time?
