Heisman watch candidate No. 2: Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

It’s been obvious from the first week of the season that LSU is not remotely in the ballpark of the team they were a season ago but that didn’t mean that Mac Jones and the Alabama Crimson Tide were going to take it easy on them. And the quarterback didn’t let up as he tossed it all over the yard on the rival Tigers to only further solidify that he’ll be a finalist for this award.

Against LSU, Jones completed 20-of-28 passes for 385 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. That now gives the first-year starter over 3,100 yards passing with 27 touchdowns and only three picks for the year. That’s not likely enough for him to catch Trask in the Heisman race but his performance this season has been nothing short of pristine.

Heisman watch candidate No. 1: Kyle Trask, QB, Florida

The matchup against the Vols may have been closer than many people expected but Florida Gators quarterback Kyle Trask did nothing to remotely relinquish his hold on the position of the Heisman frontrunner in the 31-19 victory. He aired it out all day, completing 35-of-49 passes for 433 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions to his name.

As absurd as it sounds, Trask is on a better scoring pace and on roughly the same yardage pace as Joe Burrow was a season ago through the first nine games of the year. That’s how good the Gators signal-caller has been with over 3,200 yards and 38 touchdowns with only three picks to this point in the season. Barring a complete dropoff from him against LSU in the season finale, it’s hard to imagine anyone being able to catch Trask in this race.
