2. Washington Football Team

The installation of Ron Rivera as head coach has given the Washington Football Team a much-needed steady hand and a dose of credibility. They also have a quarterback question looming, with Dwayne Haskins seemingly having one foot out the door, Alex Smith a health and age question mark and Kyle Allen no team’s idea of a plan.

Washington could win the NFC East this year, or they could end up with a top-10 pick in next April’s draft. But they will have have plenty of cap space regardless ($50.336 million right now, according to Over The Cap), which opens up some interesting options for how to address the quarterback position.

Making a trade for Darnold, or waiting until if or when he’s cut, would feel like a half measure (albeit a fairly low-risk one) for Washington to secure a potential quarterback of the future. But he will be an option that’s out there, and the better structure they have on the football side should help him be better after leaving the ongoing debacle that is the Jets.
