1. Rick Porcello

The break up between the Red Sox and Rick Porcello did not work for either side in 2020, as both had disastrous seasons in their own respect. It would only be fitting for this to be a one-year separation, as a return for Porcello on a low-money deal can be the ultimate win-win of the offseason for him and the Red Sox.

Porcello had his worst season as a pro in the shortened 2020 season when he went 1-7 as a member of the New York Mets with a 5.64 ERA in 59 innings pitched. Porcello is not nearly done with this upcoming season set to be his age 32 season. And considering how difficult it was for the Red Sox rotation to get deep into games, it shows a clear opening that Porcello can fill.

Porcello’s specialty with the Red Sox was the ability to eat innings while pitching rather well in Fenway Park. It’s been a while since his 2016 Cy Young season where he posted 22 wins, but his ability to pitch nearly 200 innings a season makes him the perfect candidate to return to the Red Sox as the No. 5 starter in the rotation.

There’s no guarantee the Red Sox are even interested in the reunion, but considering what happened last season for the team, it would be worth checking out if the price were right.
