5. Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets lost some frontcourt depth this summer with the departures of Jerami Grant and Mason Plumlee. Having someone other than the rookie Bol Bol to back up Nikola Jokic might be a good idea.

To be fair, the Nuggets’ priority should be feeding Bol Bol developmental minutes off the bench, which this coaching staff has done a good job with in regards to its young prospects over the years while still contending for Western Conference supremacy. However, if Bol isn’t up to the challenge, or if he gets hurt again, having a seasoned pro and intelligent reserve like Gasol certainly wouldn’t hurt.

While Pau obviously isn’t in his prime anymore, he’d be a terrific replacement for another smart passing big like Plumlee, and that would only make the 1-2 combo of Jokic in the starting lineup followed by Gasol with the reserves that much more lethal. Good luck stopping those two from dropping dimes all over the court.

As it stands, the Nuggets have 15 players under contract for the upcoming season. But giving him a training camp deal and seeing if he can’t be more valuable than someone like Vlatko Cancar or Isaiah Hartenstein isn’t a bad idea by any means.
