Early college football DFS picks December 12: King me!
By Mike Marteny
College football DFS wide receiver picks December 12:
Top Tier:
No matter who the opponent is, DeVonta Smith is worth whatever they’re charging. He just went for 231 against a supposedly strong LSU secondary. Want another mind-boggling stat? Smith has 11 touchdowns in the four games since Waddle went down. Lock and load!
This is also a smash spot for Calvin Austin. He has at least 100 receiving yards in six of the last seven games. It’s going to be seven of eight here. The only question is how far over 100 he goes. The same is true for Marquez Stevenson. This is a superb matchup for him as well, but he may be a little rusty after not playing since Halloween.
Mike Harley only had two receptions last week, but he still had 105 yards. He’s a bit of a risk with the offense being centered around King, but Harley is one of the fastest guys around. If you want something a little more stable, Jaquarii Roberson and Bo Melton will do that for you.
Middle Tier:
If you believe that Malik Cunningham has a big day, then you should pair him with at least Tutu Atwell and probably Dez Fitzpatrick as well. Atwell is the sure thing, but Fitz is much cheaper and a bargain that we likely need on this slate.
Dontay Demus has at least 20 DraftKings points in three straight games. Rutgers might be the weakest defense that he’s faced in that span. Demus can put up big numbers for a middle tier price.
If KJ Jefferson is under center again for Arkansas, Treylon Burks is an interesting play. Jefferson threw to Burks a lot with Franks sidelined. Franks spreads it around more. Jefferson eyeballs Burks first all the time.
If Stevenson is out again, lock in Keith Corbin. Even if he plays, Corbin is a strong play in a game that could be very high scoring once again. Isn’t it always?
Ontaria Wilson is now the guy for Florida State with Terry out of the picture. The issue I have here is that John Metchie is the same price. Both are solid bargain pick for those of us that can’t afford the elite receivers.
Bargain Shoppers:
Who’s the better second option, Corbin or Tahj Washington? I think I vote Washington and he’s cheaper. This whole game could be a DFS gold mine.
This could be a rougher night for the Oregon receivers, but I still like Johnny Johnson at this price. Brevin Jordan seems a touch underpriced in this range too, but King can totally dominate the game at times, leaving little less for anyone else.
I like the upside on Ihmir Smith-Marsette since Iowa will give him the ball out of the backfield if the passing game stalls out. Both offenses in this game are huge risks. This should be a defensive battle.
The Penn State defense has had their issues. They are going to have big issues with Jayden Reed. I’m a little worried about the Michigan State QB situation, but Reed is cheap enough to throw a dart or two with.
