4. Derek Carr is not a smart Week 14 play for your playoffs

The most profitable quarterback in all of the land during Week 13 was Derek Carr. The Raiders played down to the level of the hapless New York Jets. But based on some curious defensive playcalling, the Raiders left Week 13 with a victory over the winless Jets. Carr posted a blistering 33 fantasy points.

Saddle Carr up for Week 14 in your playoffs, right? No, don’t do it. Carr lives in that Goff-Cousins-Stafford zone where he will be marvelous during some weeks and pedestrian in others (for fantasy’s sake, at least). The Raiders will host the Indianapolis Colts this weekend, and Frank Reich‘s team has a knack for stimying opposing quarterbacks. Indianapolis only allows 17 fantasy points per game to passers, so Carr falls in the midsection of that pecking order in terms of competition.

It may be tempting to throw the hot Carr into your playoff lineup but please consider relenting. Slightly coveted fantasy signal-callers like Matt Ryan or Ben Roethlisberger will be better plays this week. This advice essentially boils down to those fantasy managers that stream at quarterback. If Carr is the man you’re leaning toward, kick the tires on an alternative option. Starting the elite quarterbacks against the Colts would be dicey — Carr should be a full-stop during your decision-making process.
