Pick Analysis. 2. 39. Scouting Report. INF. Toronto Blue Jays. Jonathan Villar. player

One of the most surprising standouts from the 2020 season was Giants second baseman Donovan Solano, who grew from a career minor-leaguer and slap-hitter into an elite offensive second baseman who took home the NL Silver Slugger award at that position. However, even after Solano and Brandon Crawford had quality seasons at the plate, expect San Francisco to add another middle infielder. While Villar is coming of a poor season at the plate, a year that was split between the Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays, he is a promising buy-low candidate.

In 2019, Villar played all 162 games for the Baltimore Orioles, hitting .274 with 24 home runs and 73 RBI, all the while stealing an excellent 40 bases. That combination of speed and power will be a welcome sight in San Francisco.

Villar’s versatility enables him to play all over the infield while taking over an outfield spot of the Giants get desperate. When he’s healthy and plugged into the leadoff role, Villar is an above-average offensive producer that can cause complete havoc on the basepaths. With lightning-quick speed, an improving power stroke, and a quality glove in both the infield and outfield, Villar looks like a perfect signing for the Giants.
