Minnesota Vikings: 3 HC/QB combos of the future that could fix team
By John Buhler
2. USC Trojans offensive coordinator Graham Harrell/USC Trojans quarterback Kedon Slovis
While the Daboll/Lance pairing could be very exciting for the Vikings, the team may not be bad enough to draft the North Dakota State standout in the top 10. Plus, the Cousins contract needs at least one more year off it before the Vikings can seriously consider parting ways with him. So if it all hits the fan for the Vikings in 2021, here is a very interesting pairing to consider in 2022.
Admittedly, it would be in the vein of what the Arizona Cardinals have in Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray. While Kingsbury never coached Murray in college, he said he would take him if he had the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Well, what would you know? The duo worth keeping an eye on is USC Trojans offensive coordinator Graham Harrell and USC quarterback Kedon Slovis.
Because the Trojans are a top-15 team in a coronavirus-shortened Pac-12 season, USC is not going to fire head coach Clay Helton. If the Trojans stumble in 2021, he might get the ax. While Harrell could theoretically be promoted from within, he may just want to join his star quarterback in the NFL instead. Look for some sort of NFL Air Raid variation to be making its way to Minnesota.
Slovis was talented enough to force an injured five-star talent in JT Daniels to transfer to the Georgia Bulldogs. He may not be the undeniable NFL talent Carson Palmer was coming out of USC, but he could be a top-10 pick like Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez and Sam Darnold all were. The best part is he would go to a better-run organization than any of his USC quarterback predecessors did.
