Pick Analysis. 47. AFC East. . New England Patriots. 2.. player. Scouting Report

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick stayed committed to Cam Newton after his third straight poor showing as a passer in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams. At 6-7 and clinging to fading playoff chances in December, New England is in some unchartered territory.

Newton has mostly looked like a shell of himself again this year, as throwing the ball looks painful. So it’s all but certain he’ll be plying is trade elsewhere next season, likely as a backup.

Jarrett Stidham is a big unknown right now, which pushes an idea the Patriots should bench Newton and see what he has over the final three games. But Brian Hoyer getting the nod when Newton was out due to COVID-19 earlier this season really says it all about where Stidham stands as a starting option for now and probably 2021.

The Patriots are sitting on a lot of cap space for 2021 right now, to go with the possibility they’ll be picking in the top half of the first round. A reunion with one-time Tom Brady heir apparent Jimmy Garoppolo is possible, since the San Francisco 49ers can cut bait on him very easily in the offseason.
