Establishing the ground game is important at any level and finding a workhorse is important for any program when building an offense. L.J. Johnson, the nation’s number-three running back recruit, is a workhorse running back.

In 2019, the running back carried the ball over 200 times and racked up nearly 2,000 yards and 37 touchdowns. At 54-foot-10 and over 200 pounds, Johnson has the perfect build to handle all the touches a program needs.

He doesn’t catch the ball much, but if you need a couple of yards for a key conversion you don’t want anyone else touching the ball if he’s on the field. He has a great burst as well to go with his power and if he reaches the second level, he’s either hitting the end zone or breaking off a monster gain.

Johnson has listed his top four, which include Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Oklahoma. The crystal ball predictions see it as a two-horse race for Johnson between the Aggies and the Longhorns.

Texas running backs coach Stan Drayton has been on the trail of Johnson for a while and this would be a major get for the future of the Longhorns backfield.
