National Signing Day predictions for the Top 25 uncommitted recruits
- High School: Terrebonne (Houma, LA)
- Composite Rankings: No. 18, No. 2 DT
Maason Smith will soon be an imposing force in the middle of a college defensive line. At 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, the defensive tackle is an absolute unit that will overpower an offensive line and blow up a play at will.
Smith has seen growth in his play as well over his high school career. The defensive tackle had eight more sacks as a junior than he had as a sophomore. There aren’t many high school linemen built to handle a rare talent with his attributes.
So naturally, a physically gifted defensive lineman is heading off to the SEC. This isn’t a surprise and with the 2021 class, it appears that fellow top uncommitted defensive tackle recruit Tywone Malone is also leaning toward an SEC program as well.
It appears in the case of Smith, the Louisiana product is all but likely staying at home. The experts at 247Sports are incredibly confident in their prediction Smith will choose LSU.
The announcement date isn’t available for Smith when it comes to his commitment and ultimately signing his letter of intent. The only two challengers really seen for Smith are Alabama and Georgia, but it feels like a safe bet that he becomes a Tiger.
Prediction: LSU
