Sammy Watkins has had a career full of ups and downs. The former fourth-overall pick has just one 1,000-yard receiving season in his career, and unfortunate injuries have greatly limited his availability each season.

However, for you as a fantasy general manager, this week is all you are worried about. Watkins and the Kansas City Chiefs will visit New Orleans to play the Saints in what could be a potential Super Bowl Preview this week.

No, New Orleans does not have a terrible pass defense. Instead, the team has a rather solid unit. Although, this is the Chiefs we are talking about, and those weapons they boast are constantly too much for any defense to handle.

Yes, Patrick Mahomes has a list of options ahead of Watkins with Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Mecole Hardman, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Le’Veon Bell. Perhaps even Demarcus Robinson falls ahead of Watkins.

However, Hardman and Robinson may seem ahead of him because of their numbers. But, as said before, Watkins has missed time, so his totals are lower. When he plays, Mahomes tends to target him. So far, in games he has played, Watkins has seen six or more targets in each game besides three. In Week 1, he went for seven catches on nine targets for 82 yards and one touchdown.

Watkins is dynamic, and he is someone who Mahomes leans on at times. He does not drop many passes, and he has been the go-to guy on the receiving end of numerous first-down catches.

Putting it in broad terms, Watkins is a possible add because the Saints do have the personnel to possibly take away at least one of Mahomes’ favorite targets in Hill or Kelce. So, it will have to be someone else who steps up to make plays, and that could likely be Watkins.

Also, the Chiefs are chasing that number-one seed in the AFC. Starters will be used.
