Another Houston Rockets player has torn his Achilles
Houston Rockets guard Chris Clemons has apparently suffered a torn Achilles.
Coming into the 2020-21 NBA season, the Houston Rockets were dealing with three players — all newcomers — who would be returning from Achilles injuries.
In just their third preseason game, another name will unfortunately be added to the Team Achilles list.
On Tuesday night against the San Antonio Spurs, Rockets guard Chris Clemons had to be taken off the court in a wheelchair after an apparent non-contact injury. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the initial diagnosis is a torn Achilles tendon. The team will await an MRI Wednesday morning to confirm.
The Houston Rockets were dealt a tough injury blow in preseason
Chris Clemons is hardly a starting-caliber piece for Houston, but in a season where the Rockets are trying to do everything in their power to convince James Harden that he can win a title there, they need as much help as they can get.
In five minutes of action Tuesday night, Clemons put up 3 points, 2 assists and 2 rebounds. He had actually knocked down a 3-pointer and was getting back on defense when he sustained the injury.
This unfortunate blow adds him to the Team Achilles list that includes DeMarcus Cousins, John Wall and David Nwaba, all of whom are recovering from Achilles injuries of their own in recent seasons. Hopefully they can serve as an example of all that hard work in rehab paying off and rally around their teammate to encourage him through such a trying recovery process.
Clemons went undrafted out of Campbell in 2019 but signed with the Rockets afterward. He spent some time in the G League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, and in 33 games with Houston, he averaged 4.9 points in 8.8 minutes per game, shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from 3-point range.
