The Dodgers seem to be openly disrespecting Corey Seager by searching for other shortstops.

The Los Angeles Dodgers don’t seem to have a real payroll budget and are always connected to the biggest names in the game. The ability to spend landed the Dodgers Mookie Betts last offseason and even has the team linked to Francisco Lindor this offseason.

The Dodgers are always seeking to get better, and that remains true even after winning the 2020 World Series. But one position that seems good to go is shortstop thanks to Corey Seager. The two-time All-Star and 2020 World Series MVP is a budding star. So why are the Dodgers continuing the search at shortstop?

A bit of disrespect toward Corey Seager

The Dodgers being linked to a Lindor trade has also brought up the possibility of targeting Trevor Story. The rumors don’t end there as ESPN’s Jeff Passan said the team also has interest in Marcus Semien.

One fair point to make is these are all just rumors. But adding Betts proved the Dodgers will make upgrades even if there are suitable options already at a position.

Los Angeles is in an interesting spot with Seager and the shortstop position. He is set to hit free agency following the 2021 season alongside Lindor, Story, Javier Baez and Carlos Correa. So it is entirely possible the Dodgers do make a big trade and hold on to Seager if they can’t get the new acquisition to commit to a long-term deal.

One way to make that work is to switch one of the shortstops to third base and let Justin Turner walk in free agency. Acquiring top talent and finding a way to make it work is never a bad strategy.

Seager would be a focal point on plenty of teams around the league. But the Dodgers are stacked with talent and are constantly trying to get better. Keeping their options open is a good business move, even if it is disrespectful.

The only potential problem is Seager feeling like he isn’t wanted. However, a hefty new contract can solve any bad feelings if the team stands pat this offseason and decides to let Seager prove why he belongs.
