5 most interesting NFL matchups to watch Week 15
3. Washington’s quarterback vs. Jamal Adams
At the moment, Washington officials aren’t sure who their starting quarterback will be on Sunday. Their clear preference is to entrust Alex Smith to manage their offense, but he’s an injury doubt. That could place Dwayne Haskins in the unenviable task of trying to contend with the Seahawks defense in a must-win game.
Either signal-caller will be challenged to deal with Jamal Adams around the line of scrimmage. He’s already racked up 8.5 sacks in just nine games this season from his safety spot. Adams has the ability to hold up in coverage, but he’s a difference-maker when he’s let loose to make plays in the opposing backfield.
Look for Washington’s coaching staff to put a number of short passes in the game plan to get the ball out before Adams can make his way to the quarterback. Screen passes should be a particularly important part of the team’s strategy. Adams will need to be careful not to overcommit to crashing into the backfield when Washington is setting up their screen game.
The strategies might serve to slow Adams down, but Washington doesn’t have the offensive talent or balance to truly stop him. Adams will make his share of plays during what should be a comfortable game for his defensive unit. Seattle’s massive advantage in terms of roster talent should make this a comfortable win for the Seahawks.
