Jason Kelce isn’t on board with the Philadelphia Eagles tanking for a higher draft position.

The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the thick of the NFC East title sweepstakes after their shocking win over the New Orleans Saints. With that victory, the Eagles are now 4-8-1 and are a game and a half behind the Washington Football Team for first place. If Philadelphia doesn’t win the division, it’s very likely to pick in the top 10 of the upcoming NFL Draft.

Of course, when a season appears to be lost for a team, their fanbase begins jumping onto the “tank for a higher draft position” bandwagon. That method is not popular among players, especially Eagles center Jason Kelce, who had a blunt response for those fans calling for the team to intentionally lose the final three games of the season.

You can hear Kelce’s words for yourselves in the latter tweet below.

Jason Kelce doesn’t care about your tanking wishes

Kelce’s comments shouldn’t come as a shock. Professional athletes aren’t putting their bodies on the line to lose games. They’re competitors, and they want to win.

The Eagles were on the verge of picking inside the top-five over a week ago, as the offense as a whole sputtered out of control. The majority of the offensive line is battered, with Kelce playing through an arm injury, and that didn’t exactly help quarterback Carson Wentz, who had a grand total of 19 turnovers this season. So, head coach Doug Pederson opted to do what many Eagles fans were imploring him to do — start rookie signal caller Jalen Hurts and send Wentz to the bench.

After a promising performance coming off the bench against the Green Bay Packers in Week 13, Hurts shocked the world with his play against New Orleans’ vaunted defense. Hurts completed 17-of-30 pass attempts for 167 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 106 yards on 18 carries in Philadelphia’s 24-21 win.

With the NFC East completely up for grabs, as the last-place Dallas Cowboys are just two games back of first, the Eagles aren’t throwing in the towel for the sake of a draft pick. Let’s not forget that getting a high draft selection doesn’t equate to success.

There will be no tanking on Jason Kelce’s watch.
