5. Russell Wilson, QB (Seattle Seahawks)

Last Week’s Ranking: Unranked

Highest Ranking of Season: 1st (-4)

2020 Stats: 3,685 Passing Yards, 36 Passing TDs, 12 INTs, 70.4% Comp, 109.0 Passer Rating

Wilson had a quick week off from the MVP rankings as his team lost to the New York Giants — a team that appeared aimless against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 14. It made Seattle’s loss to the Giants all the more flummoxing.

Nevertheless, the Seahawks resoundingly rebounded by blasting the Jets out of the sky. Wilson scripted a four-touchdown performance on an efficient 206 passing yards. He also tossed an interception, but you can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs.

The 32-year-old now ranks second in the NFL in touchdown passes behind Aaron Rodgers (we’ll get to him) but has the third-most interceptions. Folks don’t peg Wilson as an interception savant, but this season he has thrown quite a few compared to upper-echelon peers like Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.

The Seahawks travel to the nation’s capital this weekend to take on the Washington Football team — a squad that has a sneaky-good pass defense. Seattle is locked in a battle for the NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams. The teams both own 9-4 record with the tiebreak tilting toward the Rams for the time being.
