1. Jose Quintana

Jose Quintana’s time with the Chicago Cubs did not go as planned. He was traded there by the White Sox in 2017 and did not live up to the hype. A 4.24 ERA during his time with the Cubs immediately took him out of the ace conversation.

Quintana could now use a fresh start. He is still only 31 years old and routinely makes over 30 starts per season when healthy. His struggles showed up once he joined the Cubs, so perhaps some new eyes on him could make changes to get him back to how he was pitching with the White Sox.

Unlike the other two on this list, Quintana could receive a multi-year deal and potentially be a steal for the Dodgers. He is not going to be at the top of the rotation, but doesn’t need to be with the Dodgers. Perhaps that change would help him mentally as well.

The Dodgers may not get an answer from Price until close to the start of the season. The team’s budget allows them to spend on contingency plans, and adding another capable starting pitcher may be the smart move as the 2021 season could end up being another unique one in MLB history.
