We have entered the critical period of the fantasy football playoffs where your top three running backs (RB1, RB2, RB3) can determine whether you win and move on, or lose and your season is over.  The best RB1 for week 15 is Alvin Kamara.  The best RB2 is David Montgomery and the best RB3 is Nick Chubb.

Tier 1 Starting Running Backs

Every fantasy football owner wants two Tier 1 starting running backs.  These players should  occupy the RB1 and RB2 positions on your team.  Here are the  top 16 Tier 1 running backs. We’ve also highlighted the “Surefire Starters” for week 15 in this group.

  1. Alvin Kamara, New Orleans RB1,  is capable of scoring 20+ fantasy football points in week he’ll need to do it against the NFL champion Kansas City Chiefs.  He is definitely a Surefire Starter in what could be a prequel to Super Bowl LV.
  2. Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings RB1, is a model of consistency despite the woes of the Minnesota Vikings.  He averages 5.0 yards per carry, is a Surefire Starter at home against the Bears this Sunday and is second only to Derrick Henry in yards rushing.  Expect at least 20 FFP from Cook.
  3. Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans RB1, has a chance to widen the gap in yards rushing between him and Dalvin Cook.   (Henry has 1,532 yards on the ground versus Cook’s 1,352 yards.)  Henry is a Surefire Starter at home Sunday as the Titans take on the Detroit Lions who have one of the weakest rush defenses in the league.  Twenty-five or more FFP would not be out of line for Henry this Sunday.
  4. James Robinson, Jacksonville jaguars RB1, has 236.1 FFP and plays Baltimore at home.
  5. Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers RB1, has 202.8 FFP and plays Saturday night at home against Carolina
  6. Kareem Hunt, Cleveland Browns RB1,  has 193.4 FFP and plays an away game against the Giants Sunday night.
  7. Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys RB1, has 190.7 FFP and plays San Francisco at home Sunday.
  8. Mike Davis, Carolina Panthers RB1, has 189.6 FFP and plays Saturday night in Green Bay,
  9. David Montgomery, Chicago Bears RB2, ran 11 times for 113 yards and 1 touchdown in week 14. Based on recent performances, Montgomery could be the most underrated back in fantasy football.  We’ll see as the Bears  play a road game Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
  10. Antonio Gibson, Washington National Team RB2, and Washington are hosts to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday.
  11. Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas Raiders RB2, and the Raiders played the L.A. Chargers in Thursday Night Football game.
  12. Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts RB2, and the Colts host the Houston Texans Sunday.
  13. Ronald Jones II, Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB2, and the Bucs travel to Atlanta to face the division-rival Falcons on Sunday.
  14. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Kansas City Chiefs RB2, face the Saints in what could be a prequel to Super Bowl LV.
  15. Nyheim Hines, Indianapolis Colts RB2, and the Colts host the Houston Texans Sunday.
  16. Kenyan Drake, Arizona Cardinals RB2, play the Philadelphia Eagles at home Sunday.

  1. Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns RB3, is worth considering as a “Flex” starter this week based on the Browns’ recent success running the football.  Most recently, he scored 2 touchdowns in Monday night’s loss to the Ravens and averaged over 100 yards rushing in his last 5 games.
