SP. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. New York Yankees. JA Happ. 2.. 43

How about replacing Wainwright with a pitcher who’s one year younger than him? All jokes aside, JA Happ is one of the better mid-tier options on the free agency market.

When looking back at this past season for the New York Yankees, their main weakness was starting pitching. Gerrit Cole was unsurprisingly their best pitcher in the rotation, but when it comes to second-best, that would be none other than Happ. Through nine starts in the truncated season, Happ posted a 3.47 ERA and 1.054 WHIP, while recording 42 strikeouts over 49.2 innings of work.

The Yankees certainly didn’t expect Happ to be utilized at the top of the rotation. But due to injuries to James Paxton and Luis Severino, the Yankees had no choice but to push Happ up the depth chart. And for the most part, he proved to be a solid option. Happ would benefit from joining a team that won’t require him to be a top-of-the-rotation guy. He’d be a quality back-end pitcher for the Cardinals and would come at a bargain.
