Jon Heyman and Trevor Bauer got into it on Twitter Friday afternoon over free agency reporting.

Jon Heyman responded to Trevor Bauer dispelling his free agency report shortly after the fact.

The MLB Network insider reported on Friday afternoon that the Cincinnati Reds will not be able to afford bringing back the reigning NL CY Young award winner on a new contract. Bauer quote tweeted Heyman’s report, questioning his source. Heyman responded by saying the Reds are in the process of dumping salary and therefore, will not be bringing him back into the fold in 2021.

What are we to make of this Twitter beef between Bauer and Heyman?

This is par for the course with Bauer, who has never been afraid to speak his mind. The outspoken right-hander has the fastball and the swagger to back it up. However, we all kind of knew that Bauer was not likely to go back to the Reds on a second contract. This was a year-and-change move for the Reds, who are looking to dump fellow pitcher Sonny Gray‘s salary this offseason.

Bauer will have plenty of suitors, so him finding employment ahead of the 2021 MLB season is not going to be the least bit difficult. Though we cannot technically rule out the Reds entirely until Bauer indeed signs elsewhere, Bauer trying to get Heyman to burn his source over a public medium like Twitter is just another example of why Bauer is a one-of-a-kind ballplayer.

Where do you think Bauer signs in his impending free agency this offseason?
