1. Spencer Ware

The Chiefs can never, truly, quit Spencer Ware. The former Seahawks draft pick spent the last five seasons in Kansas City, totaling 1,400 yards from scrimmage in 2016 before eventually becoming a backup to the likes of Damien Williams on Kansas City’s Super Bowl squad. Ware’s 224-pound frame gives him enough bulk to run over defenders in between the tackles, but he quietly developed a slid receiving game that made him a valued commodity in Reid’s offense. Losing a player like Edwards-Helaire could be extremely challenging, but Reid has a proven history of getting the most out of Ware.

In addition to the difficulty that either Feaster or Crowell would face in learning the Chiefs’ expansive playbook right before playoff time, proper COVID-19 testing might further delay their actual time of arrival. The best option for Kansas City is to bring in someone that is cheap, knows the offense, and can make some plays as soon as he gets on the field. Ware knows his role, and he has proven in the past he can be a valuable backup in Kansas City.
