Drew Brees doesn’t know how healed his ribs are as he returns to the field Sunday.

One of the biggest storylines of Week 15 is Drew Brees returning to action for the New Orleans Saints. He suffered a brutal rib injury last month and also had a collapsed lung. Now he is back and there is some concern about his status.

Fans may think Brees was medically cleared. However, FOX’s Jay Glazer reported the quarterback isn’t sure of how much his ribs have healed because he didn’t want another scan due to radiation concerns. ProFootballTalk rounded up the concerning news from Glazer.

Brees back with question marks

So basically, Brees says he feels fine and the Saints are taking him at his word. This is a guy who broke nearly all his ribs and had to regain proper lung capacity just a month ago. Is it safe for him to be out on the field taking hits?

Brees has had several scans on his ribs already, hence the radiation worries. That should mean there was improvement seen each time to where him feeling better is backed up by actual repair in his body.

His return comes at a time when the Saints are looking to regain the top spot in the NFC from the Green Bay Packers. Sunday brings a tough matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs that could determine the NFC’s lone bye. A loss by the Saints likely means the Packers hold on to the top spot thanks to owning a head-to-head tiebreaker.

dark. Next. Saints shouldn’t view Taysom Hill as franchise QB

Brees wanting to return for his teammates is a noble move. He just needs to be careful and make sure he doesn’t take any unnecessary hits. The last thing the Saints need right now is Brees going out with another injury right before the postseason.
