While most Jets draft discussion centers around Trevor Lawrence, this will be one of the most pivotal drafts in franchise history. Not only will the Jets have a very high second-round pick, but they will also be in possession of Seattle’s first-round pick due to the Jamal Adams trade.

As they (should have) learned from the Sam Darnold debacle, getting the quarterback isn’t enough, as they need to surround him with complementary pieces. Harris would be a perfect addition to the ground game, as it would give that downtrodden unit some juice.

While most of this is due to Adam Gase’s inability to devise good blocking schemes and running plays, Le’Veon Bell fizzled out as a Jet. Frank Gore will likely be retired next season, and rookie La’Mical Perine looks more like a backup or short-yardage option than a long-term answer in the backfield.

If they get Lawrence or Justin Fields, giving him a reliable bell-cow with speed, vision, and raw strength in the backfield that can tote the rock 20 times per game will make the learning curve from college to the pros a bit less steep. Look for the Jets to assemble a super-young offense of the future in the draft.
