Scouting Report. AFC East. 2. player. 59. Pick Analysis. . Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins’ are a playoff-caliber team this season (8-5 entering Week 15), but their backfield has been a combination of disappointment (Jordan Howard, Matt Breida) and surprise contribution (Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed) on the way to a bottom-tier rush offense.

With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on a rookie contract and an extra first-round pick next April via the Houston Texans, Miami is in position to be aggressive again in the offseason if they want to be. That could mean entertaining trades, or hitting free agency with enough cap space ($31.559 million projected right now) to do some things.

The Dolphins could continue to go the cheaper/lower risk route at running back, and line up an incoming higher draft pick (Najee Harris? Travis Etienne?) for the lead role in 2021. But the temptation to add a proven commodity at the position will definitely be there, and the hint that Elliott could be gotten has to be of some early intrigue to a rising team like the Dolphins.
