Cleveland Browns kicker Cody Parkey continues to be haunted by the word “doink,” as evident on Sunday against the New York Giants.

Back in 2018, the Chicago Bears were a field goal away from eliminating the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild-Card Round. But then, kicker Cody Parkey managed to have his attempt tipped at the line of scrimmage, resulting in the infamous double-doink. He’s never lived it down, and the pain reemerged on Sunday night as the kicker for the Cleveland Browns.

In the second quarter against the New York Giants, Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield connected with wide receiver Jarvis Landry on a two-yard touchdown pass. Following the catch, Landry was flagged for taunting the Giants, resulting in a 15-yard penalty on the extra-point attempt. That proved to be damaging to Parkey, as his kick swerved directly into the right upright. A doink, have you. And Twitter had a field day.

Parkey reliving a past nightmare

The Browns see the Giant’s failed fake field goal attempt from earlier in the game and raise them a single doink. Somewhere, a Chicago Bears fan just got a chill down their spine when watching Parkey’s latest miss. For you Browns fans, at least it wasn’t a double doink. Insert shrugging emoji here.

Following his pivotal miss in the 2018 playoffs, Parkey would make a media appearance on NBC’s “The TODAY Show” to discuss the double doink. Shortly afterwards, the Bears released Parkey from his contract, making hm a free agent. Parkey would spend a grand total of three games last season with the Tennessee Titans to fill in for the injured Ryan Succop. Parkey was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and 5-for-6 on extra points. He was released right after Succop was cleared to return.

In 12 games with the Browns in 2020, Parkey successfully made 17-of-20 field goal attempts (long of 46 yards) and 37-of-39 extra point opportunities. In Cleveland’s Week 14 game against the Baltimore Ravens, Parkey missed a 39-yard field goal attempt, which happened to be his first miss since Week 7 versus the Cincinnati Bengals.

No matter what Parkey does, the internet truly never forgets.
