5. Ryan Tannehill, QB (Tennessee Titans)

Last Week’s Ranking: Unranked

Highest Ranking of Season: 4th (-1)

2020 Stats: 3,482 Passing Yards, 31 Passing TDs, 5 INTs, 66.5% Comp, 110.4 Passer Rating, 4 Rushings TDs

At some point, the sports body politic must universally announce that Ryan Tannehill is an outstanding quarterback. He is not an overperforming Dolphins cast-off. He is not merely a complementary piece to Derrick Henry. He doesn’t manage games. Ryan Tannehill is damn good.

Look at the numbers. It’s elite stuff. The general public has a mentality that he is playing better than he did in Miami and because of that, he is “pretty good” for what is expected of him. But he is a lot more than that.

His QBR and passer rating are better than Russell Wilson, who he replaced on this MVP Stock Watch. He has virtually the same Pro Football Focus grade as Wilson. Tannehill is essentially a statistical clone of Wilson — with Derrick Henry to the back of him.

And don’t look now but the Titans are heading to the playoffs — a place where they reached the AFC Championship in 2019. Tennessee is not a fluke. They were never the “2017 Jacksonville Jaguars” as some prophesied by some.

Tannehill deserves to be mentioned in MVP chatter. This is that.
