2. player. 54. Pick Analysis. WR. Alshon Jeffery. Scouting Report. Philadelphia Eagles

Speaking of injury-prone veteran wide receivers on the Eagles’ roster, I give you Jeffery. He didn’t play until after the Week 9 bye this year due to a foot injury. He has had a small revival since Hurts took over under center, with a touchdown in Week 14 and two catches for 63 yards in Week 15, but Jeffery is surely auditioning for a new team next year as this season winds down.

The Eagles have tried to trade Jeffery in the past, including just before this season started. But that foot issue and this year’s $9.9 million base salary made finding a taker impossible.

But looking to the offseason, the idea of trading Jeffery seems realistic. They would still take on $10.5 million in dead money by trading him before June 1, 2021, with close to $8 million in cleared cap space. If they traded him after June 1 (via Over The Cap), those numbers shift to just under $5.5 million in dead money and a round $13 million in saved cap space. After next season, there is no firm contractual commitment to Jeffery.

A contending team may consider what would amount to one-year flier on Jeffery in the offseason. Recouping a mid-to-late round pick, likely with some health/playing time/production conditions attached, would probably be enough for the Eagles to move him along.
