Let’s be clear. The Rams are in no way moving off of Jared Goff in the near future. The demand for superstar quarterbacks will always exceed the supply, Goff’s contract makes getting rid of him almost impossible, and he hasn’t been Carson Wentz-level bad where the organization has no choice but to enter cap hell to offload him. What is inarguable, however, is the fact that the Rams would genuinely be screwed if Goff were to go down with an injury. Their backup, former AAF standout John Wolford, has yet to throw a pass in the NFL. In need of a better insurance plan for Goff, Sean McVay should consider Haskins.

While Ron Rivera has proven to be a solid head coach and very good defensive mind, his hires on the offensive side of the ball have underwhelmed. Whatever talent is around Haskins, it is naught but ash in the hands of OC Scott Turner, who has been criticized for overly conservative gameplans and a reluctance to take shots down the field. Going from Turner to McVay would be the equivalent of trading in a Toyota Camry for a Maserati, and that trade-in could help Haskins return to the Rose Bowl winner we saw at Ohio State. If McVay can fix him, or at least improve him, it’s probably time for him to find another occupation.
