Will Mitchell Trubisky return to Chicago in 2021?

Just when it looked like the Chicago Bears were finally ready to rip off the Mitch Trubisky band-aid, a winning streak near the end of the season has the Bears firmly in the playoff picture. While Matt Nagy could theoretically boot Trubisky in favor of a quarterback with a higher ceiling, GM Ryan Pace might bring Trubisky back into the fold given how well he has performed over the last few weeks.

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Bears, who could end up in the postseason following the Arizona Cardinals’ slip-up, could bring Trubisky back in 2021 if they make it to the playoffs.

Mitchell Trubisky has been playing some solid football of late

After overtaking Nick Foles as the starter due to the former’s injury, Trubisky has thrown eight touchdown passes against just three interceptions. While Nagy has completely reinvented the playbook after an embarrassing stretch of games, the Bears can credit this run to a more balanced offense, as David Montgomery is finally starting to show off the fact that all the hype that he accrued in college was warranted.

While the 2021 NFL Draft is considered to be one of the best classes for quarterbacks in recent memory, the Bears might not be in a position to draft some of the best prospects in this class if they end up in the postseason.

Adhering to the old axiom “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it”, the Bears could be content with running back with Trubisky in 2021 and looking for a quarterback that year if they fail to recapture their 2020 pizzazz.

Trubisky’s time as a starting quarterback looked dead after his benching in Week 3, but he has injected new life into his career over the last few weeks. Still, it’s reasonable to question if the Trubisky we’re seeing now is someone who has turned over a new leaf or someone riding a hot streak.
