14. Catching fire

Erik Jones, driver of the STANLEY Security Toyota, car flames up after an on-track incident during the NASCAR Cup Series Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 Powered by Big Machine Records at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Jul. 5, 2020, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

NASCAR is always a fun sport to shoot. It contains speed, color and inherent danger. While you never want to see anyone hurt, crashes are part of the sport and when a car ends up in flames, it usually makes for a better picture. I was able to capture this image after a wreck at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Fortunately, the driver wasn’t hurt. I like how the yellow car, the orange flames, the smoke and the nice light all come together to create an image that illustrates a fleeting moment within this sport.

13. Keeping his head above water

Brazilian Paralympic swimmer Daniel de Faria Dias trains at Quality Club Academia amid coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on Jun. 25, 2020 in Braganca Paulista, Brazil. Dias was born with malformed upper and lower limbs. He is qualified for the next Tokyo Paralympics and has won 24 medals, including 14 gold medals from the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Paralympic Games.

This photo is part of a project to show how Olympic and Paralympic athletes continue to prepare for the games during this pandemic year. This image shows Paralympic swimmer Daniel Dias during training, which is 100 percent of his daily reality in order to keep up his speed and efficiency. I kept walking and then running around the pool, using an underwater camera, flashes and a drone until I got this photo on the second-floor deck of the pool. For me, this photo showcases Daniel’s determination, effort and intensity.
