The Super Bowl is a highlight of the sports year, and when the confetti falls at the end of the game, it’s clear for one team their dreams have come true. I imagine for a football player there is no greater accomplishment than to be awarded a Super Bowl ring, and a deep pain for the losing team who came so close. I’ve always been interested in the juxtaposition of the over the top celebration, with the dejected reaction from the losing team. I love a quiet photo in a loud moment. This year, I was positioned in the corner where the San Francisco 49ers left the field to walk to the locker room. Some hurried off the field, others looked deflated. Here, wide receiver Deebo Samuel seems deep in thought as a thick downpour of confetti falls behind him.
