NBA DFS picks December 29: Never fold a Joker
By Mike Marteny
NBA DFS Small Forwards:
The only one that even moves the needle for me at the top of SF is Brandon Ingram. He has a plus matchup and looks to be forming a very nice duo with Zion.
As much as I like Ingram, I think I’m even higher on Khris Middleton. Middleton averaged 38.1 DraftKings points per game against Miami last year. Given his hot start and the fact that Miami still doesn’t really have anyone to stop him, I’ll have a lot of Middleton tonight.
Jerami Grant destroyed Cleveland on Saturday and had another strong game yesterday. Blake may take away some of his production, but Grant is still going against a Warriors front without Draymond. Grant is a strong play in the middle tier.
As per usual, I like Michael Porter, but Denver isn’t giving him big minutes. That makes his ceiling lower than most of his peers and makes is really hard to want to use him in anything but cash games. Play Mikal Bridges instead. Bridges at least gets minutes in the mid-30’s consistently.
Kelly Oubre has not made a shot from the field that wasn’t a dunk. Andrew Wiggins has been almost as bad. This looks like a good spot for both of them, but with both of them shooting like Ray Charles, it’s really hard to want to take that plunge.
This could be a nice spot for Cedi Osman with the Cavs thin on the wings with Okoro, Porter, and Windler all out. Still, Josh Jackson looks like a much safer pick. Even Nicolas Batum is a stronger play, especially if Kawhi is out again.
Doug McDermott is a poor man’s J.J. Redick. They called him Dougie McBuckets in college for a reason. If McDermott goes cold or loses minutes he will really hurt a lineup, but right now he’s consistently putting up 6-7x value to start the season.
Isaac Bonga is a starter in name only. He is being outplayed by Deni Avdija. It should only be a matter of time before the rookie takes the starting job for himself.
