The former National Champion quarterback had some choice words for the Fighting Irish during their Rose Bowl performance.

Notre Dame is arguably the most polarizing team in all of college football, especially when it comes to their playoff eligibility. After they were blown out by Clemson in the ACC Championship Game, many were stunned to see the Fighting Irish clinch the fourth-seed in the College Football Playoff over the likes of Texas A&M or Cincinnati.

Those individuals were validated on New Years Day, as Alabama victimized Notre Dame from the start of the Rose Bowl. One of those people is former USC quarterback Matt Leinart, who tweeted that the Fighting Irish didn’t look like they belonged.

The game was over once it started

Notre Dame’s start was an ugly one. Their first drive ended on five plays, while Alabama stormed down the field, leading to a touchdown reception by Heisman Trophy finalist DeVonta Smith. As if matters couldn’t get any worse for Notre Dame, they surrendered a huge running play to a hurdling Najee Harris, setting up another touchdown.

You didn’t need stats to prove that Notre Dame was simply outmatched by the superior Crimson Tide, but we have one for you. At one point in the second quarter, Alabama was averaging 14.4 yards per play against Notre Dame’s defense. The Crimson Tide were recording first downs on every single offensive play, enough said.

We didn’t need Leinart to say Notre Dame didn’t belong in the CFP Semifinals, because every football fan could see that with their own two eyes. Sorry Irish fans, but it’s the truth.

Notre Dame trails Alabama, 21-7 in the second quarter.
