5 head coaching candidates for the Houston Texans this offseason
Make all the jokes you want about Marvin Lewis, but the man won games. Two years in the jungle without him and Zac Taylor has a grand total of six wins.
Wasn’t Taylor supposed to fix the problems Lewis never could?
While Lewis felt destined to leave the team that named him head coach back in 2003, there’s reason to believe he still has the skills to become one at the NFL level once again. He’s widely respected around the league thanks to his turnaround in Cincinnati. He also has a leg up on the competition, interviewing for the position late last month.
Between the terrible times at Paul Brown Stadium, there were good moments with a great 1-2 combination. Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson helped the Bengals offense lead the AFC North and pick up two division titles. In the 2010s, Andy Dalton and A.J. Green led Cincinnati to five consecutive postseason appearances.
Lewis is currently serving as the Arizona State defensive coordinator. That should help fix the Texans’ defensive woes while trusting a veteran name can mend the ship from sinking into a disaster for years to come.
